Here’s a sentence I never thought I’d say - I packed light, and with intention. “Light” is the key word. I don’t tend to pack multiple luggages, but I do overpack in the sense that I fear my luggage will be overweight and I’ll be faced with someone at the check-in counter saying in a very loud tone “90 dollars!!” as it happened a few times before. This time around, things went a little different, and that’s because I organized my wardrobe and felt better about it and about things in general - funny how that is.
My latest purchases were the focal point as I seriously intend to adhere by that new girl math concept. The Miu Miu boat shoes were a crush at many sights. I didn’t think much about them back in January, and by May I was sweating with refreshing tabs and checking stores I don’t normally shop at for back in stock alerts. Let’s move on from this one as it almost gave me anxiety.
The next two purchases were lucky random browsing moments on The Row’s website in search for a completely different thing. We’ve all been there, I’m sure. Still haven’t bought the thing I initially went online for - “join the waitlist” it says. That just means “keep refreshing the browser until you feel faint for days” and it will eventually appear. I digress. I bought these slides and this bag while looking for a completely different one.
So yes, Miu Miu boat shoes, Hugo slides and chocolate brown raffia bag were the main characters in my luggage for a week. I wanted a light luggage, I wanted cost per wear justification*, and I wanted to wear old things in a different way.
Planning phase. I had the outfits in mind already, I just wanted to see how things looked together and not have some unpleasant surprise while traveling and with no way of fixing a bad fit. While trying things on, I realized I needed a belt for the striped sequin top and jumbo jeans look, and also added a belt to the all beige outfit for an interesting detail. Had I not tried things on, I wouldn’t have packed these specific two belts. At the last moment I threw in a sheer dress as coverup for the pool, and a swimsuit. Who knew May in Napa can find us by the pool to cool off?!

Unpacking was also fun, as I really enjoyed organizing my things in the hotel’s armoir. It felt like home away from home not to see my luggage around containing the extra stuff “just in case”.
The khaki jacket was part of my airport travel look as weather in San Francisco can be unpredictable and I’d rather be hot than cold.
Below are all the outfits worn out and about. This was an exercise I really loved, and I am going to do it every time from now on.

Happy Thursday,

*this will take a lot more wears, but I am off to a good start.
I love the pleasure you took in your getaway "closet" -- these moments can be so telling and so transformative.
